The Start of The Journey

Spiritual journey is an event when someone feels extraordinary close to his/her Creator. I called it extra ordinary because this event creates a significant impact to someone's faith, not just a routine interaction (Moslem's pray 5 times a day). It is not a physical travel to some holy places like Mecca and Medina, it's not a pilgrimage. It is nothing to do with physical activities even though it can happen at the same time.

I don't think every body will experience this journey, unless they really intend to have it. I have been told to pray to God 5 times a day since I was in elementary. I'm very much older now and I have never pray the way I pray in the last few days. Many people, including me, Salat 5 times a day but we don't walk the talk. We don't do what we promise to do and we often do what we promise not to do. We don't act, think and behave like Allah told us in the Qur'an. My Salat has become an obligation without meaning.

I have seen people who have performed Hajj but still doing things they should not do and we often read it in the newspaper.

In my own experience, I have gone through a process, a chain of events that helps me to condition my mind, soul and body to start this journey. It is not happening over night. Nevertheless, it must start from our will. Our own willingness to seek for His hidayah. This is not just physical willingness, but also mind and soul willingness. We have to open our mind, lower our pride, forget our work level, status, social and materialistic achievements. We should be willing to learn from any body, older or younger, richer or poorer, janitor or director. Only after we sincerely intend to go through the journey, we can hope to start.
